From Lebanon to Slovenia: A Student Mobility Experience at SASS

My Erasmus+ semester in Slovenia has been one of the most valuable experiences of my life. Coming from Lebanon, I was excited to study abroad, but I never expected how much this journey would help me grow both in terms of academic and personal growth.

From the very first days, I was warmly welcomed by the School of Advanced Social Studies (SASS) and had the opportunity to meet students from many different countries. Being surrounded by people with diverse cultures, languages, and perspectives taught me open-mindedness and cultural awareness. It was amazing to see how quickly true friendships could be built despite our different backgrounds.

Academic Growth and Intercultural Collaboration

Academically, studying in an international environment was a great experience. The courses encouraged active participation, critical thinking and teamwork, and I truly enjoyed learning through discussions with classmates from around the world.

Working on international group projects with students from different cultures helped me improve my communication skills and demonstrated the vital importance of collaboration in a global setting.

Independence, Natural Beauty, and Lifelong Friendships

Outside the classroom, Slovenia surprised me with its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. I had the chance to visit lakes, mountains, and the beautiful Slovenian coast, experiencing the country’s rich culture. Every trip became an opportunity to create unforgettable memories with friends.

One of the biggest lessons I learned during my Erasmus+ mobility was becoming more independent. Living away from home meant managing my own responsibilities, adapting to new situations, and solving challenges independently. These experiences helped me develop greater independence and self-confidence, making me feel well-prepared for the future.

What made this semester truly special were the people I met along the way. The lifelong global friendships I built are something I will always treasure. I would like to express my gratitude to the university coordinators, staff, and professors for their kind support and dedication, which made this experience seamless and enjoyable.

I am also deeply grateful to the Erasmus+ programme for making this opportunity possible. It is much more than a study exchange — it is a life-changing journey. I return home with new knowledge, greater confidence, and memories that will stay with me forever. To any student thinking about applying: step outside your comfort zone and go for it!
