Quality

At SASS, we ensure quality through regular evaluations, student surveys, and accreditations. This page collects key information about our quality system.

Internal Quality Commission

At the School of Advanced Social Studies (SASS), we understand quality as the foundation of our operations. The Quality and Evaluation Commission plays a key role in this, being responsible for the monitoring, development, and improvement of all processes at the faculty. The Commission prepares proposals for measures, carries out evaluations, monitors self-evaluation reports, and proposes improvements for future years. Students, employees, and external stakeholders are actively involved in its work, ensuring a holistic insight into the quality of study programmes and research work.

Quality Assurance System

The Faculty has developed an internal Quality Assurance System based on continuous monitoring and improvement. The process operates on the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) principle, which means we constantly plan, implement, verify, and upgrade our activities.

  • Every year we prepare a self-evaluation report, which includes an analysis of the quality of studies, research work, cooperation with the environment, and internal organization;
  • We monitor performance indicators, from student satisfaction to the international recognition of researchers;
  • All key stakeholders are involved in the process – students, graduates, employees, and external partners.

Student opinion is one of the central components of the quality system. Every year, the Faculty conducts student surveys in which students evaluate the quality of pedagogical work, workload in courses, suitability of learning materials, and the support of faculty services. Survey results are the basis for implementing changes, while also confirming that SASS students are above average satisfied with the execution of their studies. Areas such as the operation of the student affairs office, the library, and the quality of practical training achieve particularly high ratings.

Quality is not measured once, but is continuously evaluated. Every year, we prepare a self-evaluation report, which is confirmed by the Quality Commission and the Faculty Senate. The report includes analyses of the satisfaction of students, graduates, employees, and employers, as well as research achievements. Based on the findings, we prepare action plans for improvements, which we then implement in the following year. Such a system ensures transparency while also clearly directing the development of SASS.

The reward system is also an important part of the quality system, with which we encourage the excellence of students and employees. At SASS, we reward:

  • students for achieved academic and research success,
  • best final theses, which are often linked to the Gosar Award ceremony,
  • active participation in research projects or extra-curricular activities,
  • pedagogical and research excellence of employees.

With this, we systematically build a culture of excellence and motivate for further development.

We offer employees workshops, seminars, and summer schools for the development of pedagogical and research competencies. Students have access to the tutoring system, psychosocial support, language workshops, extracurricular activities, and activities for international students. The Faculty also regularly organizes scientific and professional events (e.g., conferences, workshops, Psihodnevi, Media Day), which enable students to connect with practice and provide new opportunities for cooperation.

All SASS study programmes are accredited by the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (NAKVIS), which ensures compliance with national quality standards. Furthermore, the Faculty operates in accordance with European guidelines and is an active participant in numerous international projects and evaluations (Erasmus+, Jean Monnet, COST). International accreditations and evaluations increase the recognition of the Faculty and confirm the quality of educational and research work within the wider European area.

In addition to national evaluations, SASS is also regularly involved in international evaluation procedures. These allow for benchmarking the quality of our operations against other European higher education institutions and ensure compliance with the ESG standard (European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance). International evaluation gives the Faculty additional credibility and confirms that our programmes and research are competitive in the international academic space.

Link to Research Activity

At SASS, we also understand quality as connecting studies with research. The Faculty carries out numerous national and international research projects, includes students in research work, and transfers research results into the study process. Our researchers are active in Horizon, Erasmus+, Interreg, and other European projects, and achieve high citation rates in international scientific journals. The organization of international conferences (e.g., Slovenian Social Science Conference) further contributes to the international recognition and development of the quality of research work.
