Enrolment Conditions

Enrolment into the 1st Year

In accordance with Article 38 of the Higher Education Act, the following may enrol in the first year of the Social Management (BA) programme:

A) anyone who has completed the general matura,
B) anyone who has completed the vocational matura or the final examination under an appropriate programme for obtaining upper secondary vocational education,
C) anyone who completed any four-year secondary school programme before 1 June 1995.

Applicants who have completed an equivalent education abroad also meet the admission requirements.

Selection Criteria in the Case of Restricted Enrolment

The faculty may limit enrolment if the number of applications significantly exceeds the number of available places. In the case of restricted enrolment, candidates from points A, B, and C are selected on the basis of: overall performance in the final examination, vocational matura, or general matura – 60%, overall performance in the 3rd and 4th year – 40%.

Differential exams are subject to additional fees (see the Price list). Fees must be paid before registering for the exam. DIFFERENTIAL EXAMS MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR ENROLMENT!

Enrolment in the 2nd Year (Transfer Criteria)

Direct enrolment in the second year of the Social Management programme is possible for:

a) Graduates of post-secondary vocational programmes adopted after 1 January 1994, provided they meet the requirements for enrolment in a professional higher education programme. Candidates must complete differential exams in selected subjects from the first and second year, up to a maximum of 24 ECTS, as determined by the competent SASS body based on established differences between programmes.

b) Candidates transferring on the basis of recognised exams previously completed in other first-cycle (Bologna) study programmes of the same level.

Enrolment in the 3rd Year (Transfer Criteria)

Direct enrolment in the third year of the Social Management programme is possible for:

a) graduates of post-secondary programmes adopted before 1 January 1994, provided they meet the requirements for enrolment in a professional higher education programme,
b) graduates of professional higher education or university programmes adopted before 11 June 2004, provided they meet the requirements for enrolment in a professional higher education programme,
c) graduates of first-cycle (Bologna) professional and university programmes, provided they meet the requirements for enrolment in a professional higher education programme.

Candidates under points a), b), and c) must complete differential exams in selected subjects from the first and second year, up to a maximum of 45 ECTS, as determined by the competent SASS body based on established differences between programmes.

d) Candidates transferring on the basis of recognised exams previously completed in other first-cycle (Bologna) study programmes of the same level.

Applicants who have completed an equivalent education abroad also meet the admission requirements.

Tuition Fee

Payment options allow for a single payment or installment payment (up to 5 installments) with the following due dates: upon enrolment, no later than 30 November, 31 January, 31 March, and 31 May of the current academic year.
For installment payments, an administrative fee of 30.00 EUR is charged for each installment.

Course Structure and Schedule

The programme is offered as a part-time study. The organisation of the part-time programme is specifically adapted to the needs of students who are employed or have other obligations. For the delivery of contact hours, the faculty also uses various modern information and communication technologies (such as the online classroom).

The study programme is conducted at two locations:

in Nova Gorica, at the faculty headquarters (Gregorčičeva ulica 19)
in Ljubljana, at the branch unit (Leskoškova 9e)

Lectures and exercises take place in the afternoon on weekdays, typically between 16:00 and 20:00. To a lesser extent, individual sessions may also be held in the morning. Should the scope of the teaching process require it, lectures or exercises may exceptionally be organized on Saturdays as well.

Students who cannot attend certain scheduled sessions have access to the above-standard Study+ Package, which allows for additional flexibility in following the study programme. More information: Study+ Package

* In exceptional circumstances (public health measures, illness, etc.), we reserve the right to make minor adjustments.
** If the number of newly enrolled students at the part-time study location is below the threshold specified in the call for enrolment, the faculty may decide to conduct the programme in the form of consultations only or not to deliver the programme at that location.

Study for International Students

International students are offered the possibility to study in English.

International students attend lectures and seminars in English in those courses where an English-language delivery is provided alongside the Slovenian version.
For other courses, individual or group consultations in English are organised, provided that at least one international student is enrolled in the course. In some courses, attendance at additional lecture or seminar sessions may be required; students are informed of this in advance via the timetable.

At the beginning of the academic year, students complete a survey regarding their interest in English-language consultations. If they select this option, regular attendance is expected. Students who use the Study+ package have access to recordings of consultations, provided that at least one student attended the session.

By purchasing the STUDY+ package, you gain valuable support that goes beyond the assistance of our helpful faculty staff, who are always ready to guide you through your studies. The package provides the following benefits and services: the possibility to attend most lectures and seminars live via ICT tools (Zoom), year-round access to recordings of most lectures and seminars, the possibility to take exams through ICT tools (Zoom or the Moodle online classroom).

Curriculum

The undergraduate study programme Social Management (BAA) is structured so that each semester consists of 30 ECTS credits, and each academic year comprises 60 ECTS credits. The programme lasts three years, and students must complete a total of 180 ECTS credits.

In the current academic year, the faculty offers a selection of elective courses from the full catalogue. The list of elective courses offered in the current academic year is available at urniki@fuds.si.

Students may also complete elective courses within other comparable study programmes at SASS or at other higher education institutions. The procedure is defined in the Rules on Verification and Assessment of Student Knowledge File available at the Regulation page.

The new curriculum includes the changes to the study programme adopted at the Senate meeting on 14 November 2019 and it applies to all students. Note: The previous curriculum is no longer implemented. Older content is available in the Archive of Previous Study Programmes.

Assessment of Knowledge

The assessment system is designed to encourage continuous work, active learning, and steady student progress. Various forms of assessment are used, including mid-term tests, written and oral exams, seminar papers, projects, portfolios, and reports on practical training. The methods of assessment are defined in the course syllabi, which are published on the website.
Students may apply for recognition of previously completed exams or other obligations if they are comparable in content to the requirements of the programme. More information on the Recognition of exams.

Progression Through Study Years

To progress to the next study year, a student must complete at least 45 ECTS from the previous year when advancing from the first to the second year. To progress from the second to the third year, the student must have completed all obligations from the first year and at least 45 ECTS from the second year. If differential exams are prescribed, they must be completed before progression. In exceptional cases—such as illness, parenthood, or officially granted special status—a conditional enrolment into the next study year is possible. The decision is made by the Dean, based on the proposal of the Student and Academic Affairs Commission.

Termination of student status: Student status is terminated in the cases defined by the Higher Education Act and the Statute of SASS.

Additional Year (“Absolventski Staž”): After completing the final semester, a student who has not yet graduated may exercise the right to an additional year (“absolventski staž”). This is possible only immediately after the completion of the final semester, and only if the student has not repeated a year or changed the study programme or study track. If the student has repeated a year or changed the programme, their student status ends immediately after the completion of the final semester.

Requirements for Completing the Study Programme

To complete the programme, students must fulfil all study obligations prescribed by the curriculum, amounting to 180 ECTS credits.

A student who enrols in the second year of the Social Management (BAA) programme after completing a post-secondary vocational programme adopted after 1 January 1994 must complete all prescribed differential examinations and all regular study obligations of the second and third year, amounting to at least 120 ECTS.

If a student enrols in the third year after completing a post-secondary programme adopted before 1 January 1994, they must complete all prescribed differential examinations and all regular study obligations of the third year, amounting to at least 60 ECTS.

Acquired Competences

Within the Social Management (BAA) study programme, students acquire the following general competences and subject-specific competences.

The listed competences apply to students enrolled in the 1st year of the study programme in the academic year 2020/21. For students enrolled in the 2nd and 3rd year in the academic year 2020/21, as well as for all students enrolled in the programme up to and including the academic year 2019/20, the previous competences of the study programme apply, provided that the students progress regularly in their studies.

General Competences

Knowledge and understanding of cultural and social processes, together with the ability to analyse them in a complex manner.
Use of methodological tools, including conducting, coordinating, and organising research, and applying a range of research methods and techniques.
Ability to develop original ideas, concepts, and solutions to specific problems.

Ability to work interdisciplinarily and connect different experts in order to assess practical issues and jointly find appropriate solutions.
Ability to use relevant national and international legal sources, electronic resources, and critically analyse relevant literature.

Readiness for lifelong learning.

Subject-Specific Competences

Knowledge and understanding of the foundations and historical development of key social science disciplines, including sociology, political science, communication studies, economics and management, social informatics, law, social statistics, and qualitative methods.
Ability to address concrete social and work-related problems by using social science research methods and procedures.
Ability to connect coherently mastered foundational knowledge gained in compulsory courses and apply it in practice.
Ability to obtain, select, assess, and contextualise new information and interpret it within the framework of the social sciences.
Ability to apply an interdisciplinary approach, demonstrated through an understanding of the overall structure of the social sciences and the interconnections between their disciplines and subdisciplines.
Understanding and use of methods of critical analysis and theory development, and their application in solving concrete social and work-related problems.
Development of skills for applying knowledge in the social sciences through work on theoretical or empirical problems.
