Together into the New 2026/27 Academic Year

Dear students of the School of Advanced Social Studies!

The new academic year brings new opportunities, connections, challenges and experiences. To help you take your first steps on your study journey with confidence and without unnecessary concerns, we invite you to the FUDŠ Orientation Days 2026.

During the sessions, you will meet the Faculty management and administrative staff, receive key information about the study process, and discover the many forms of support available to you. You will learn how to use the online study environments, register for examinations, seek assistance, complete your practical training, develop your career path, participate in international exchanges and use artificial intelligence responsibly.

We strongly recommend that you attend, as the information and answers you receive at the very beginning will make the entire academic year easier for you.

Dates and format:

• 1 and 2 October 2026: ONLINE sessions for first-year students, including students enrolling directly in a higher year for the first time, in undergraduate and master’s degree programmes.
• 9 October 2026: HYBRID Orientation Day for doctoral students—on site in Ljubljana at Leskoškova 9e and online via Zoom.

All events will be recorded, and the recordings will later be available in the Moodle online classroom. The programme will be delivered in Slovenian, except for the virtual welcome session for international students and the Orientation Day for doctoral students, which will also be delivered in English.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: You will be informed about the start of lectures and the timetable by email from the Student Affairs Office during the final days of September or no later than 1 October 2026.

16:00 – Virtual welcome from the Faculty management

We will begin the new academic year with a welcome from the management of the School of Advanced Social Studies. Students will be addressed by:

• Assoc. Prof. Dr Petra Kleindienst, Dean of FUDŠ,
• Lect. Emil Karajić, Vice-Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.

Listen to their encouraging words as you begin a new chapter and discover the values, opportunities and community that will accompany you throughout your study journey.

16:30 – Be Prepared for Every Aspect of Your Studies

Starting your studies brings a great deal of new information, rules, procedures and important deadlines. To help you feel at home in the academic environment from day one, we will present all the key information you need to complete your study obligations successfully and in an organised manner.

Presentation of the Student Affairs Office

The Student Affairs Office is the central point of support for students in academic and administrative matters. During the presentation, you will learn:

• how to follow the timetable and which special details require your attention;
• how examination registration and withdrawal procedures work;
• where to find important regulations and other legal acts of the Faculty;
• what your rights and responsibilities are;
• whom to contact when you need help or further clarification.

The presentation will be led by Natali Vuk Birsa, Head of the Student Affairs Office.

17:00 – Moodle and Study+ Support: Digital Support for Organised and Flexible Study

The Moodle online classroom will be one of your most important digital environments during your studies at FUDŠ. It is the central point for accessing course content, following lecturers’ instructions and completing individual study obligations. Regular and correct use of Moodle is therefore essential for well-organised, independent and successful study.

During this practical presentation, you will learn about the basic functions of the online classroom and receive guidance on using it effectively. You will learn:

• how to access the Moodle online classroom and individual courses;
• where to find study materials, instructions and other important documents;
• how to follow lecturers’ announcements;
• how to submit seminar papers, reports and other assignments correctly and on time;
• how to communicate with higher education teachers, staff members and other students;
• where to find recordings of lectures and other supplementary content when available;
• what to do if you encounter technical difficulties and whom to contact for assistance.

In the second part of the presentation, you will learn more about the premium Study+ Support package, which enables students to participate in the study process more flexibly. It is intended primarily for those balancing their studies with employment, family commitments, distance from the Faculty or other life circumstances.

Study+ Support enables you to attend most lectures and practical classes via Zoom and access recordings in accordance with the delivery conditions of each course. The package also includes additional forms of support that can help you organise your studies, complete your obligations, gain practical experience and plan your future career development.

During the presentation, you will learn:

• which content and services are included in the Study+ Support package;
• how remote participation in lectures and practical classes works;
• where recordings of completed course activities are available and how long you can access them;
• which additional forms of support are available to package users;
• how Study+ Support makes it easier to balance your studies, work and personal commitments.

The presentation will help you use digital study environments confidently from the beginning of the academic year, monitor your obligations more effectively and understand the options available for adapting your studies to your lifestyle.

The presentation will be led by Tjaša Peršič, Student Affairs Officer.

17:30 – From Study to the World: International Exchanges and Project Participation

Studying can be much more than attending lectures and taking examinations. The Project Office opens the door to international experiences, new connections and participation in interesting projects.

During the presentation, you will learn about:

• study exchange opportunities within the Erasmus+ and CEEPUS programmes;
• opportunities for international mobility;
• ways for students to become involved in Faculty projects;
• opportunities to gain practical experience and develop new competencies while studying.

Your future international journey may begin at the Orientation Day.

10.00 – Virtual Welcome for International Students

Beginning your studies in a new country and a different academic environment is an important life experience that can bring many opportunities, as well as questions and challenges. This virtual session is therefore intended for all international students joining the study process at the School of Advanced Social Studies for the first time.

At the event, you will receive key information to help you start your studies more easily, become part of the academic community, and adjust to studying and living in Slovenia. You will learn about the organisation of the study process, the Faculty’s most important online environments and communication channels, and the support services you can contact with questions or requests for assistance.

The following topics in particular will be presented:

• the organisation of studies and the most important information at the beginning of the academic year;
• using student online environments and monitoring timetables, announcements and study obligations;
• communicating with the Student Affairs Office, higher education teachers and other administrative services;
• support available to international students as they integrate into the academic environment;
• practical guidance for adjusting to studying and living in Slovenia as smoothly as possible;
• opportunities to connect with other students and participate in academic and extracurricular activities;
• answers to international students’ most frequently asked questions.

The session will also provide an opportunity to discuss your concerns, ask questions and receive specific guidance on the next steps. Our goal is for you to feel welcome, safe and included at FUDŠ from the very beginning, and to know whom to contact whenever you need further information or support.

The event will be led by Mia Kenig, International Student Coordinator, and will be delivered in English langauge.

16.00 – How to Successfully Balance Study, Work and Personal Life: Presentation of the FUDŠ Career Centre’s Support

Studies often take place alongside employment, family responsibilities and other everyday challenges. This lecture is therefore intended primarily for non-traditional students and anyone wishing to organise their obligations more effectively, remain motivated and successfully become part of the academic environment.

During this practical lecture, you will learn about:

• strategies for effective time management and balancing study, work and personal commitments;
• ways to set achievable goals and determine priorities;
• approaches to maintaining motivation during more demanding periods;
• the importance of seeking help promptly and becoming involved in the student community.

You will also learn about the FUDŠ Career Centre, which provides students with comprehensive support before, during and after their studies. The presentation will cover opportunities for individual career counselling, assistance with career planning, job searching and the organisation of practical training, as well as connections with potential employers.

You will also learn more about the tutoring system, support for students with special needs, the psychosocial counselling service, extracurricular activities and other forms of assistance available at the Faculty. The purpose of the session is to ensure that, from the very beginning of your studies, you know that you do not need to face every challenge alone and that you can turn to the appropriate individuals and Faculty support services for help.

The lecture will be led by Andreja Slejko Rojc, Head of the FUDŠ Career Centre, and will be delivered in Slovenian language.

16.30 – Artificial Intelligence in Your Studies: Your Assistant, Not a Shortcut

Artificial intelligence is becoming an important part of studying, research and the future professional environment. Tools such as ChatGPT can make it easier to generate ideas, understand complex content and organise your work, but they must be used thoughtfully, transparently and in accordance with the principles of academic integrity.

During the presentation, you will learn:

• what is and is not permitted when using artificial intelligence during your studies;
• how to use artificial intelligence tools responsibly and meaningfully;
• what the FUDŠ rules and recommendations are;
• how to cite or disclose the use of artificial intelligence appropriately;
• where the boundary lies between permitted assistance and an impermissible intervention in an author’s work;
• what academic integrity means in a period of rapid development in artificial intelligence.

Time will be reserved for questions and an open discussion.

The presentation will be led by Lect. Emil Karajić, Vice-Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, and will be delivered in Slovenian language.

17.00 – Presentation of the FUDŠ Library: Reliable Support for Study and Research

The FUDŠ Library is not merely a place to borrow books; it is an important information and support centre of the Faculty. It gives students access to high-quality professional and academic resources and assists them with independent study, research and the preparation of written academic work.

During the presentation, you will learn how the Library operates and which options are available to you throughout your studies. You will find out where and how to search for suitable study literature, how to access Library materials, and how to use electronic resources and databases. Particular attention will be devoted to effective searches for reliable information and its appropriate use in the preparation of seminar papers, project assignments and final theses.

The librarian will present:

• the location, opening hours and operation of the Library;
• the membership procedure and the rules for borrowing, renewing and returning materials;
• options for finding books, articles, final theses and other professional or academic materials;
• access to printed and electronic study resources;
• the use of library catalogues, academic databases and other digital collections;
• basic strategies for effectively searching professional and academic literature;
• ways to assess the quality, credibility and relevance of sources;
• the importance of correctly referencing and citing the literature used;
• instructions, templates and other tools for preparing seminar papers and final theses;
• opportunities for individual assistance from the librarian when searching for literature and using information resources.

The presentation is intended for all students, especially those encountering academic literature searches and academic writing for the first time.

The presentation will be led by Marko Markič, FUDŠ Librarian, and will be delivered in Slovenian language.

FRIDAY, 9 OCTOBER 2026

Orientation Day for Doctoral Students – beginning at 16:30

Beginning doctoral studies marks the start of a demanding yet creative period of in-depth research, academic development and professional advancement. Along this journey, you will gradually shape your research identity, develop independence in academic work and participate actively in the national and international academic community.

We invite you to a special Orientation Day dedicated to presenting doctoral studies, the FUDŠ research environment, and the forms of professional, academic and administrative support available to you during your studies.

At the session, you will meet representatives of the Faculty management, higher education teachers, researchers, administrative staff, supervisors and other doctoral students. You will receive key information for a successful start to your studies and have the opportunity to exchange research interests, experiences and expectations.

An important part of the Orientation Day will also be devoted to meeting one another and building connections. Open academic dialogue, high-quality collaboration with supervisors and researchers, participation in research activities, and the exchange of knowledge among doctoral students are important foundations of successful doctoral study.

The Orientation Day will be delivered in a hybrid format, so you can attend:

• on site at FUDŠ, Leskoškova cesta 9e, Ljubljana, or

The main part of the programme will be delivered in Slovenian, with individual topics also presented in English where necessary. To facilitate communication, the presentation of the technical and administrative aspects of the programme will be delivered separately for Slovenian-speaking and English-speaking doctoral students.
