Enrolment Conditions

Enrolment into the 1st Year

You may enrol in the first year of the master’s study programme Intercultural Management if:

• you have completed a first-cycle study programme in a relevant field and obtained at least 180 ECTS credits (Bologna system),
• you have completed a higher professional study programme (pre-Bologna)
• you have completed an equivalent study programme from another field and fulfilled additional study obligations totalling 11 ECTS credits. These obligations must be completed before enrolment by passing the subjects Social Theory (5 ECTS) and Social Science Methodology (6 ECTS).

Relevant academic fields include social sciences, humanities, public administration, and business studies.

The Faculty may limit enrolment if the number of applications exceeds the number of available places. In the case of limited enrolment, candidates are selected based on the grade point average of their undergraduate studies.

Differential exams for the master’s programme Intercultural Management are FREE OF CHARGE. All exams must be completed before enrolment.

Enrolment in the 2nd Year (Transfer Criteria)

Direct enrolment into the second year of the master’s programme Intercultural Management is possible for:

• applicants who have completed a pre-Bologna university study programme in a relevant (related) field. To complete the programme, they must fulfil study obligations totalling 30 ECTS (exams) and write the master’s thesis (30 ECTS)
• applicants who have completed a second-cycle (Bologna) study programme in a relevant (related) field;
• applicants who have completed a first-cycle (Bologna) study programme in a relevant (related) field and obtained at least 240 ECTS
• applicants who have completed an equivalent study programme in an unrelated field. In such cases, additional study obligations are determined by the Student and Academic Affairs Commission
• applicants transferring based on recognised exams previously completed in other Bologna study programmes at the same level

Relevant related fields include social sciences, humanities, public administration, law, and business studies. Graduates of programmes that are not considered relevant or related must complete additional study obligations before enrolling in the second year: Social Theory (5 ECTS) and Social Science Methodology (6 ECTS).

Candidates who have completed an equivalent programme abroad also meet the admission requirements.

Tuition Fee

The Faculty has obtained state funding for the Intercultural Management study programme, which means that study within the available enrolment places is tuition-free.

If you no longer meet the conditions for full-time study (for example, you have already used the option of two full-time enrolments, or you have changed your study programme), you must enrol as a part-time student.

Payment terms allow for a one-time payment upon enrollment or payment in installments (3 or 8 installments). If choosing the 3-installment plan, payments are due upon enrollment and in the months of November and December. If choosing the 8-installment plan, the first payment is due upon enrollment, followed by monthly installments from November to May. In the case of installment payments, an administrative fee of EUR 30.00 is charged with each installment.

Course Structure and Schedule

The programme is offered as both full-time and part-time study. The organisation of the part-time programme is specifically adapted to the needs of students who are employed or have other obligations. For the delivery of contact hours, the faculty also uses various modern information and communication technologies (such as the online classroom).

The study programme is conducted at two locations:

• in Nova Gorica, at the faculty headquarters (Gregorčičeva ulica 19)
• in Ljubljana, at the branch unit (Leskoškova 9e)

In Ljubljana, lectures and seminars are held in the afternoon on weekdays, typically between 16:00 and 20:00. A limited number of sessions may also take place in the morning. If required by the scope of the study process, lectures or tutorials may exceptionally be organised on Saturdays. For students who cannot attend certain scheduled sessions, the faculty offers the Study+ Support package, which provides additional flexibility in following the study programme.

In Nova Gorica, lectures and seminars are held on weekdays, both in the morning (between 09:00 and 13:00) and in the afternoon (between 16:00 and 20:00). Here as well, part of the study process may exceptionally be carried out on Saturdays.

* In exceptional circumstances (public health measures, illness, etc.), we reserve the right to make minor adjustments.
** If the number of newly enrolled students at the part-time study location is below the threshold specified in the call for enrolment, the faculty may decide to conduct the programme in the form of consultations only or not to deliver the programme at that location.

Study for International Students

International students are offered the possibility to study in English.

• Lectures and seminars in the 1st year of the master’s study programme Intercultural Management are also delivered in English, ensuring a smooth and high-quality study process for international students.
• For other courses, individual or group consultations in English are organised, provided that at least one international student is enrolled in the course. In some courses, attendance at additional lecture or seminar sessions may be required; students are informed of this in advance via the timetable.

At the beginning of the academic year, students complete a survey regarding their interest in English-language consultations. If they select this option, regular attendance is expected. Students who use the Study+ Support package have access to recordings of consultations, provided that at least one student attended the session.

Curriculum

The study programme Intercultural Management (MA) is structured so that each academic year comprises 60 ECTS credits. The programme lasts two years, and students must complete a total of 120 ECTS credits.

In the current academic year, the faculty offers a selection of elective courses from the full catalogue. The list of elective courses offered in the current academic year is available at urniki@fuds.si.

Students may also complete elective courses within other comparable study programmes at SASS or at other higher education institutions. The procedure is defined in the Rules on Verification and Assessment of Student Knowledge File available at the Regulation page.

The new curriculum includes the changes to the study programme adopted at the Senate meeting on 14 November 2019 and it applies to all students. Note: The previous curriculum is no longer implemented. Older content is available in the Archive of Previous Study Programmes.

Assessment of Knowledge

The assessment system is designed to encourage continuous work, active learning, and steady student progress. Various forms of assessment are used, including mid-term tests, written and oral exams, seminar papers, projects, portfolios, and reports on practical training.  The methods of assessment are defined in the course syllabi, which are published on the website.
Students may apply for recognition of previously completed exams or other obligations if they are comparable in content to the requirements of the programme. More information on the Recognition of exams.

Progression Through Study Years

To progress to the next study year, a student must complete at least 45 ECTS from the previous year when advancing from the first to the second year. To progress from the second to the third year, the student must have completed all obligations from the first year and at least 45 ECTS from the second year. If differential exams are prescribed, they must be completed before progression.  In exceptional cases—such as illness, parenthood, or officially granted special status—a conditional enrolment into the next study year is possible. The decision is made by the Dean, based on the proposal of the Student and Academic Affairs Commission.

Termination of student status: Student status is terminated in the cases defined by the Higher Education Act and the Statute of SASS.

Additional Year (“Absolventski Staž”): After completing the final semester, a student who has not yet graduated may exercise the right to an additional year (“absolventski staž”). This is possible only immediately after the completion of the final semester, and only if the student has not repeated a year or changed the study programme or study track. If the student has repeated a year or changed the programme, their student status ends immediately after the completion of the final semester.

Requirements for Completing the Study Programme

The requirements for completing the programme include the successful fulfilment of all study obligations prescribed by the curriculum, as well as the preparation and successful defence of the master’s thesis. A student completes the programme upon obtaining all 120 ECTS credits specified in the study plan. Upon completion, the student is awarded a master’s degree diploma, which is an official public document.
