Global Social Nexus 2026 International Scientific Conference

Societies in Flux: Navigating Uncertainty, Change, and Resilience

The international scientific conference Global Social Nexus 2026 will take place on May 15 and 16, 2026, at the School of Advanced Social Studies (SASS), Leskoškova cesta 9e, Ljubljana, serving as the central jubilee event celebrating the faculty’s 20th anniversary.

Under the title Societies in Flux: Navigating Uncertainty, Change, and Resilience, this year’s conference will bring together domestic and foreign researchers, professors, policymakers, international experts, doctoral students, and institutional representatives to discuss the future of democracy, science, and societies.

The conference is built on connecting interdisciplinary knowledge, international research cooperation, and finding answers to contemporary societal challenges. In a time of global political, technological, and social changes, the conference aims to open up a space for reflection on the role of science in shaping the future and to strengthen the integration of research with practice.

A special highlight of this year’s conference will be a lecture by Prof. Dr. Christian Welzel, one of the world’s leading researchers on democracy, political culture, and social development, placing the conference at the forefront of international academic discussions.

Conference Programme and Jubilee Highlights

The first day of the conference, May 15, will represent the main jubilee and international highlight of the event. It will feature the keynote lecture by Prof. Dr. Christian Welzel and four high-profile roundtables: From the Achievements of the Past to the Challenges of the Future, Democracy and the Media: Slovenian Parliamentary Elections, From Vulnerability to Resilience: Preventing Radicalisation in Slovenia, and Who Raises the Adolescent? Family, the Digital Environment, or Modern Society – and What Does This Mean for the Future?. These panels will address key questions regarding the future of higher education, democracy, media, and social development.

The second day, May 16, will feature traditional academic panels alongside special sessions dedicated to SASS doctoral students and international young researchers. These will focus on the future of research, international networking, and the role of doctoral candidates in co-creating solutions to global challenges.

By connecting domestic and foreign participants, the conference aims to foster collaboration between academia, public policy, and practice, contributing to the development of new perspectives on the future of societies.

Marking the 20th anniversary of SASS, Global Social Nexus 2026 will be not only an opportunity to celebrate the faculty’s achievements but also a space where the ideas of the future are born.
