Metod Berlec was born in 1970 in Ljubljana. He is from the center of Kamnik, where he grew up. He studied history and geography at the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana and became a professor of history and geography. After finishing his studies, he taught for a while at a school near Ljubljana. For several months, he guided visitors through the permanent exhibition Slovenes in the 20th century in the Museum of Recent History of Slovenia. Together with friends (and later on business), he traveled through most of Europe and North America. In 2001, he began his journey as a journalist, first at Mag, where Danilo Slivnik gave him the opportunity, then at the editorial office of Demokracija magazine, where he soon became deputy, and then in 2002, editor-in-chief of Demokracija magazine. For two years, he was also the director of the publishing company Nova Obzorja, which publishes the magazine Demokracija. He is the host of the show Beremo/We read on Nova24TV. In 2022, he received his doctorate at the Faculty of Applied Social Studies (FUDŠ). From 2023, he is a contractual lecturer and assistant in the field of communication studies at this faculty. He is a member of the Association for the Values of Slovenian Independence (VSO), a member of the Association of Journalists and Publicists (ZNP), a member of the Slovenian Association of Patriotic Journalists (SZDN) and a member of the board of the Dr. Jože Pučnik. Since December 2022, he has been awarded the Borut Meško Honorary Award for special achievements in the field of journalism.
