INTRODUCTORY DAYS 2024 – A WELCOME TO STUDENTS AND FACULTY MEMBERS AS WE BEGING THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

Greetings to the students in the new academic year 2024/25 and greetings to the SASS academic assembly!

Dear students and everyone else!

We are delighted to welcome you to the Faculty of Advanced Social Studies. Your academic journey will begin with a series of introductory days designed to help you prepare for a smooth start to your studies.

Participation in these events is important, and we recommend it as part of your regular academic commitments.

The program on October 1st and 2nd, 2024, is intended for all FIRST-YEAR UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS. Doctoral students will have an additional introductory day on October 11th, 2024.

Most activities will take place online via Zoom for everyone, including those who have not purchased the Study+ package. However, if you would like to get to know the faculty in person, our friendly faculty staff will be waiting for you at the Nova Gorica and Ljubljana locations. They will be happy to present the faculty premises and will provide you with access to the online presentations. In this case, please notify us of your visit to the faculty by registering via the link provided (button below the text) no later than September 30th, 2024, by 10. 00 in the morning.

All events will be recorded and available for viewing in the Moodle online classroom. The events will be conducted in Slovenian, except for the Virtual Welcome for foreign students.

For all of you eagerly awaiting information about the start of lectures, the schedules are already available in the Web office. You will soon be informed via email about the final version of the schedules and the details regarding their interpretation.

At the interactive presentation, you will meet the faculty’s staff, who will also provide you with support in your studies during the year.

17. 30 Presentation of the Office for Study and Student Affairs

The Office for Student and Adademic Affairs is the basic unit of the faculty, which carries out many key tasks in support of students and ensures the smooth operation of study programs and administrative support.

Natali Vuk Birsa, Head of the Office for Student and Adademic Affairs, will present the following key aspects:

  • Special features of schedules: Explanation of the timetable system and pointing out any specifics that students must take into account when planning their study schedule.

  • Examination application procedure: Deatailed explanation of the exam application process, including the application deadlines, rules and obligations of students during the exams.

  • Faculty Legal Resources: Presentation of the faculty’s legal documents that regulate study processes, student rights and obligations, and academic rules.

  • Answering frequently asked questions: Anwering the most frequently asked questions of students related to study and student affairs.

18. 00 Presentation of the Career Centre 

The faculty’s Career Center offers students comprehensive support before, during and after their studies. Andreja Slejko Rojc, Head of the Career Center, will introduce you to the wide range of opportunities offered to students. These options include:

  • Different forms of assistance: Tutoring system, coordinator for students with special needs, psychosocial counseling, mutual assistance, personal contact and help from lecturers and professional staff.

  • Support in finding career opportunities

  • Opportunities for Study Internships

  • Various Extracurricular Activities

18. 30 Presentation of the Project Office

The Project Office at the faculty is a unit that deals with the planning, direction and implementation of various projects and programs. Jasmina Jakomin, M. Sc. will present you the possibilities of study exchanges within the Erasmus and CEEPUS program and offer you an insight into the ways in which students can participate in projects, thereby gaining invaluable work experience already during their studies.

at 17:30: Presentation of the Moodle online classroom and the above standard Study+ package for students of Social Management (BSc), Media and Journalism (1st and 2nd cycle), and Intercultural Management.

And: Presentation of the Moodle online classroom and the above standard Study+ package for students of Social Management (BA), study programs from the School of Psychosocial Support and Counselling, and Strategic Communication (2nd cycle).

During the presentation, you will receive a comprehensive overview and practical guidance on how to use Moodle, an online classroom that enables the execution of various learning activities and communication between teachers and students online. Additionally, you will learn about the above standard Study+ package, which will provide you with even more flexibility and additional options during your studies.

The presentations will be led by the Moodle Administrator, Tjaša Peršič.

Our library is not just a place where you can borrow books. It is a source of knowledge, inspiration, and support for your academic and research needs. During the presentation, our librarian Katarina Prevec will introduce the library’s operations and provide useful initial information to facilitate your studies – where to find study materials (library space, resources, and databases) and how to assist yourself with seminar papers (guidelines, templates).

Prof. Dr. Matevž Tomšič and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Petra Kleindienst will present key information about the study process, including regulations, forms, courses, and databases.

Brief Introduction of Tutorship

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Simona Kukovič will briefly present her role as a professor-tutor and how she can assist you during your studies.

Presentation of the Faculty’s Research Activities

This will be followed by a presentation of three research programs, conducted by Prof. Dr. Matevž Tomšič and Assist. Prof. Dr. Jana Krivec.

Workshop: Choosing a Doctoral Dissertation Topic

The workshop, led by Assist. Prof. Dr. Urša Lamut, will focus on discussing motivations for study and areas of interest on which you could potentially build your dissertation topic. The meeting will also cover the requirements of the Academic Colloquium.
