Psychosocial Counseling for Ukrainian War Refugees at SASS

Since June, free psychosocial counseling for Ukrainian refugees has been available at the premises of SASS in Ljubljana, conducted by Maryna Tolmacheva.

We are pleased to introduce Maryna Tolmacheva, a second-year master’s student in the Psychosocial Counseling programme. Maryna is a successful student who has already passed all her exams and is now focused on writing her thesis.

Maryna is from Ukraine and had visited Slovenia several times before moving here. She chose SASS because of the English consultations and the possibility of writing her thesis in English. Despite this advantage, Maryna found that she preferred attending lectures in Slovenian and now speaks Slovenian fluently.

In addition to her studies, Maryna works on several projects, including the free psychosocial counseling for Ukrainian war refugees. She proposed this idea and requested the free use of space from SASS, receiving prompt support from the Career Center.

The psychosocial counseling she provides is aimed at Ukrainians in difficult financial situations who cannot afford counseling services. Maryna observes that most requests for help come from women, and she wants to encourage men to seek help as well, emphasizing that talking to a professional is a sign of courage, not weakness.

Maryna also moderates a Facebook group where she regularly posts information about psychosocial help and support for Ukrainians.

We thank Maryna for her efforts and are extremely proud that she is our student. We encourage all Ukrainian refugees and our students from Ukraine to join the Facebook group moderated by Maryna and seek psychosocial help if needed.
