Curriculum vitae:
Dr. Rupel obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Essex and Brandeis University in 1976. Between 1977 and 1978 he lectured at Queen's University in Canada, in 1985 at the New School for Social Research in New York and in 1989 at Cleveland State University. In 1980, with a number of Slovenian dissident intellectuals founded an intellectual magazine called Nova Revija (New Journal), which represented the cornerstone of the subsequent democratic reform and the independence of the Republic of Slovenia. Dr. Dimitrij Rupel was also one of the founders of Slovenian Democratic Alliance in 1989, being one of the first democratic political associations which opposed the communist regime. Between 1990 and 1993, he was a member of the first democratically elected Slovenian government where he served as a Minister of Foreign Affairs. As a social scientist as well as recognized Slovenian writer, he is an author of numerous publications, both scientific monographs and fiction books.
