Ph.D. in sociology
PhD studies remain mostly individual in sense of focus on research work of every candidate. Little tought work is demanded by two fromal exames followed specific lectures on fields of Triangulation methods and a chosen course. Candidate can choose between three courses being:
- Contemporary theories in political sociology,
- Contemporary theories in sociology of economy, and
- Contemporary theories in sociology of culture
The lectures are to be scheduled on friday afternoon or saturday morning, in accordance with lecturers.
Main goals of PhD course
The main goal of PhD course is to educate postgraduats to work in scientific-research sphere but also to work as experts in public administration, politics, economy and so on. The main focus of the course aimes at knowledge and ability to use the most modern methodological aspects combined with contemporary theoretical approaches when dealing with sociology and its subdisciplines.
Programme
Programme is based on steering students into one of the three main sociological subdisciplines: political economy, sociology of economy and sociology of culture. Those three subdisciplines cover three of, in developmental sense, the most important aspects of society:
- politics (social steering and goal reaching),
- economy (assurance of assets), and
- culture (norms and values as basis for social action).
Programme therefore consists from one methodological course on Triangulation methods. This course aims towards introducing knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research methods and it also reaches bejond simple division of these two methodologies. One course consists from chosen field od sociologial subdisciplines.
Candidates will also attend two semminars, one on how to properly write a research proposal and another on how to properly write own PhD dissertation. The majority of work therefore consists from individual research work conducted under supervision of chosen PhD supervisior.
