Born in 1970 in Slovenj Gradec; professor at the School of Advanced Social Studies and vice-dean for quality assurance at the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto.
He got his BA degree sociology in 1993, continued his graduate studies at the Central European University based on the stipend by the CEU and obtained his MA degree in the field of sociology and politics in 1995 at the Lancaster University, Great Britain. He got his PhD from sociology (University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences, 1999).
After being employed from 1994 till 2007 at the University of Ljubljana, he moved to School of Advanced Social Studies in Nova Gorica in 2008. In pedagogical and research terms he also collaborates with the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto and Faculty of Media. In 2011, he was a research fellow at the Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland, and in 2012 at the University of Nevada, Reno, and Hawaii Pacific University, USA. He was also a guest lecturer at the University of Cincinnati (USA, 2015), American University of Beirut (Lebanon, 2016, 2017), University of Hawaii at Manoa (USA, 2016) and Matropolitan University (Czech Republic, 2017).
He was the SASS dean from 2011 till 2015, a member of the Strategic Council for Culture, Education and Science at the Slovenian Government (2005-2008), member of the Board of the Slovenian Research Agency (2005-2009), member of the Senate for Evaluation and the Commission for Social Sciences, Business sciences and Law of the Slovenian Council of Higher Education. From 2008 till 2012, he was a member of the Subject Matura Commission for the field of Sociology. From 2012, he has been the president of the National Committee for the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) at the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO. He is a co-chair of the Research Network 36 (Sociology of Transformations) within the European Sociological Association
